It's finally here! Prowl, the latest product from The Honest Kitchen has been formulated and purrfected just for cats. Cats are true carnivores and wild felines consume a diet of primarily meat protein and fat. Prowl is grain-free and made with 60% Human Grade hormone-free chicken, plus eggs, potatoes, yams, flaxseed, zucchini, spinach, honey, cranberries (for urinary tract health) and rosemary.

Reasearch has shown that dry kibble-style cat food is not a good choice for most cats. Kibble diets are full of grains and lacking the moisture cats need, making them a very poor choice for felines. In fact, cats have difficulty metabolizing carbohydrates (cats have no amylase in their saliva needed for digesting carbohydrates) and a diet high in carbohydrates, such as with dry cat kibble, increases their risk of obesity and diabetes and may be a contributing factor with Chronic Renal Failure and Urinary Tract Disease (please see our article on Nutrition and Obesity). A top quality diet like Prowl is especially important for aging and senior animals whose systems have a harder time processing and absorbing the nutrients in their diet. Preparations: Each tablespoon of Prowl should be rehydrated with 1 tbsp of pure filtered warm water, or boiled water that has been allowed to cool. Add the water to the food and stir well. The product will initially resemble soup. Let stand for 10 minutes minimum, for the ingredients to hydrate sufficiently. Add your own ingredients if you wish and stir again.

Any leftovers should be refrigerated or discarded. Because Prowl contains high meat and low vegetable content, the hydrated product will be a more fluid consistency that their canine diets.

Feeding Recommendations: The following suggested daily amounts should be adjusted to suit your own cat's unique nutritional requirements and appetite, which may vary according to age, level of activity, the weather and what other ingredients, if any are added. Generally, cats do best having these amounts divided into two daily meals. Most cats will enjoy additional raw meat and bones,organs or cooked meat (never cooked bones), being added to this diet.
